CEBUANO golfers were delighted by Tiger Woods’ great comeback, winning the 2018 Tour Championship. It was his first victory in more than five years.

The celebrated golfer Woods, 42, was back on top and bagged his 80th PGA Tour win the other day after scoring one-over-par 71.

Woods was basically out of golf for the past two years, playing just three tournaments worldwide as he attempted to recuperate from nerve pain after undergoing his fourth back surgery last year.

Woods’ victory felt great for the Cebuano golfers, but it was no surprise to them.

“I’m not surprised to see him win considering how close he has been during big events this year, especially during the Open. I just hope he stays healthy so he can really give (Jack) Nicklaus a major record of 18 majors a run. Woods has 14,” said Cebu Country Club’s ace golfer Marko Sarmiento.

Alta Vista Golf & Country Club (AVGCC) general manager Nimrod Quiñones said that he has always believed that one day Woods will win again.

“I have been waiting for it a very long time. I hope there will be more victories coming,” said Quiñones, who’s also a commissioner of the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC).

Sarmiento added that seeing Woods swinging well again after recovering from back injury and a five-year drought is great for golf and sports in general.

“He’s defying the odds with his comeback and you really wouldn’t expect anything else from Tiger Woods,” he said.

“Tiger draws in a crowd like no other so to see fans going crazy was nice to experience after a long time without him contending,” added Sarmiento. (RSC)
