CitiGreen shines in Malaysia

THE CitiGreen Junior Tennis Team displayed their firepower against their rivals in the 35th RGB-Penang Open International Juniors Tennis Age Group Championships on Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 in Penang, Malaysia.

Netters Signmond Cortes and Jose Maria Pague shone the brightest from the CitiGreen squad as they accounted for two gold medals each in the five-day tennis tournament.

Pague nabbed a gold medal in the Boys-18 singles with a victory over countryman Sebastian Santos, 6-1, 6-4. He partnered with Nilo Ledama in the doubles event to slam the duo of Sebastian Santos and Raven Lance Hitosis, 6-1, 6-1, in the gold medal match.

Cortes defeated his countrymen Angil Balaoing, 7-5, 6-0, in the 14-Under boys’ title match. But the two teamed up in the doubles to outlast Saidamin Akbarov and Bekhruz Mirjalilov of Uzbekistan, 6-2, 6-1.

Heinz Aslan Carbonilla had an equally impressive win, pulling off a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Se Hyuk Cho of South Korea in the Boys-12 singles.

The rest of the gold medals for the CitiGreen came from the pair of Ma. Judy Ann Padilla and Tenielle Madis in the Girls-12 doubles, and Elizabeth Abarquez and Princess Debbie Gom-os in the Girls-18 doubles.

The other players who won gold medals with foreign partners were Kean Sebastian Enriquez with Malaysia’s Muhammad Adeeb Bin Muhammad Azhari in Boys-10, and Daveaine Gauran with Heewon Ju in the Girls-10.
