The Creamline Cool Smashers powered past the resilient Cignal HD Spikers, 25-22, 27-25, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center on Monday night.

The win was hardly easy for Creamline as Cignal put up a heck of a fight before eventually faltering down the stretch. Creamline star Alyssa Valdez was key in helping the Cool Smashers recover from their four-set loss to Chery Tiggo last Friday and bump their win-loss record up to 6-1.

The former league MVP had 14 points highlighted by 10 excellent receptions and seven digs. Valdez got help from Michele Gumabao who had 11 points off of 10 kills while Jema Galanza added 10 points. Setter Jia Morado also finished with 21 excellent sets.

“Yung Cignal talagang lumalaban din yan. Hindi naman kami nagpahinga. Talagang lumaban lang yung Cignal. Maganda yung ginalaw nila. Buti na lang nakabawi kami nung third set so lesson din sa amin yun,” shared Creamline interim coach Sherwin Meneses.

Klarisa Abriam paced Cignal with 14 points but the HD Spikers have now fallen out of contention for the next round with their sixth defeat in seven games. (JNP)
