UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) wingman Dilcer Gaviola expressed his readiness for the next chapter of his basketball career after he committed to join the reigning National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champions, Letran Knights.

The 6-foot-1 left-handed two-guard said it is a dream of his to play at this level and that is why he’s going to do whatever it takes to excel in Intramuros.

“100% ready nako muduwa sa next level kay mao jud na akong dream sauna pa (I’m 100% ready to play at the next level since this has always been a dream of mine),” said Gaviola in a talk with SunStar Cebu.

Gaviola explained that he was choosing between a couple of schools. In the end, he chose Letran because of its winning tradition and its track record of helping its players succeed at the next level.

“Mas gipili nako ang Letran kay nakita nako akong future didto. Mas naka ingon ko na mas mu-improve ko didto ug nakaingon sad ko na nindot ako future sa basketball didto (I chose Letran because I can see that my future is there. I will improve there. My basketball future is in good hands there),” said Gaviola, who will be joining a proven championship roster led by Fran Yu and Larry Muyang.

He will also be playing with a couple of familiar faces in former Cebu Institute of Technology-University standouts Kenny Rogers Rocacurva and Kint Ariar.

Gaviola however, is well aware of his shortcomings and says he will be striving to work on them.

“Ang angay nako i-improve sa akong duwa kay ang akong kompyansa. Ganahan ko na mas muhatag pakog kompyansa sakong kaugalingon especially karon na dako nani na stage akong duwaan (I need to improve my confidence level. I need to build my confidence some more especially since I’ll be playing on a much bigger stage),” shared Gaviola.

Gaviola is the second player from USJ-R’s high school basketball program to get recruited by a big name school. Last month, forward Kevin Guibao committed to join University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) powerhouse, Far Eastern University. (JNP)
