Gasca: I was robbed

JAPAN-BASED Roli Gasca felt robbed of a victory following a majority decision defeat against Takuya Mizuno on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Aioi Hall in Kariya, Japan.

“I thought I won the fight. If it wasn’t their promotion he wouldn’t have beaten me,” Gasca told SunStar Cebu.

Two judges had identical scores of 77-75 in favor of Mizuno, while the third judge scored it a draw at 76-76.

“There were some rounds I believe I won but they gave it to him. My punches were clearer and the people believed that I won. When I went down the ring a lot of people told me that I won. He was even booed for winning,” said the 30-year-old Barili, Cebu native.

Gasca dropped to 25-8-1 with eight knockouts, while the 24-year-old Mizuno improved to 17-1 with 14 knockouts.

“But that’s how it goes. I hope I’ll be rated again and be able to fight for a world championship,” he added.

Gasca is looking to rejuvenate his boxing career in Japan after not living up to everyone’s expectations in his 10 years as a pro based in Cebu City.

He left the ALA Gym in December and started as a sparring partner for budding Japanese boxer Juiki Tatsuyoshi, the son of legend Jo Tatsuyoshi, at the Osaka Tieken Boxing Gym.

“I’ll relax for now and wait for my next opportunity,” said an optimistic Gasca.

Gasca said he’s still postive on his career and will wait for another chance.

Gasca said he’s still looking at a run for a world championship despite the tough majority decision loss to Mizuno in Japan. (EKA)
