Gesta vs. Tanajara cancelled

Sunnexdesk

ANOTHER fight that involves a Filipino fighter in the US has been cancelled.

The bout between Cebuano Mercito Gesta and unbeaten Hector Tanajara Jr., which was supposed to be the main supporting bout, was scrapped from the closed-door Golden Boy Promotions event on July 25, 2020 (PH time) at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

According to ESPN.com, the 32-year-old Gesta, a two-time world title challenger, was forced to pull out of the fight due to food poisoning.

Last week, the respective fights of veteran Marjohn Yap and John Vincent Moralde were also cancelled. Yap, who was supposed to fight Miguel Marriaga, tipped the scales way over the weight limit, which forced organizers to pull the plug. Moralde, on the other hand, tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced to pull out of his fight with Alexis del Bosque.

Gesta’s eager to turn his career around after going 1-2-1 since 2018.

A win over the 23-year-old Tanajara Jr., a promising young prospect being groomed by Golden Boy Promotions, would have been a great confidence booster for Gesta. (EKA)
