Gilas Pilipinas dealt another lopsided loss

THE Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 was dealt another embarrassing loss after they got torched by Slovenia, 11-21, in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Graz, Austria on Wednesday night.

The loss—their second in a row—placed the Philippines at the bottom of Group C.

The Slovenians started the game off with guns blazing, making crisp passes and rainbow shots en route to establishing a huge 13-3 lead. The Gilas was not able to get any semblance of a rhythm going with Slovenia’s Simon Finzgar putting an end to the game with a free-throw with still over two minutes left in the game.

Finzgar led the way for Slovenia with nine points, highlighted by three two-point shots. Anze Srebovt and Gaspar Ovnik added six points each.

Joshua Munzon, the 3x3 veteran, paced Gilas with seven points but it was hardly enough as his teammates fired blanks.

The Gilas plunge back into action on Friday when they battle the equally winless Dominican Republic at 5:50 p.m. and then, the unbeaten France at 7:55 p.m. (JNP)
