Mark Magsayo is a step closer to a shot at a world title after a one-sided unanimous decision win over former world champion Pungluang Sor Singyu in the main event of “Pride of Bohol” at the Bohol Wisdom Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

“I’m very happy that I won and I thank God for guiding me,” the 24-year-old Magsayo told SunStar Cebu. “It (a world title shot) still depends on my promoter and manager. I think I’m ready to fight for a world title after two more fights.”

All three judges had Magsayo ahead in their scorecards with scores of 120-108, 118-110 and 118-110.

Magsayo won the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council featherweight belt and kept his unbeaten record of 20-0 with 14 knockouts. Pungluang dropped to 53-7 with 35 knockouts.

Though he’s only ranked in the WBC because of his long layoff, Magsayo has his sights on a specific world champion.

“My dream is to fight Oscar Valdez,” he said.

Valdez is the World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion.

Giovanni Escaner(20-4, 12 KOs) beat Cebu-based Renoel Pael (23-10-1, 12 KOs) by split decision in the main supporting bout.
