MAKOTO FC got the lead the easy way while old rivals Leylam FC and Erco Bro played to a scoreless draw in the AboitizLand Men’s Open Division 1 action at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020.

Makoto FC, which beat Don Sacredale 4-0 in its first game, got its second game without a sweat after the University of San Carlos (USC) pulled out from the tournament.

USC athletic director Fr. Adriano Ocariza wrote in a letter to Central Visayas Football Association president Rodney Orale that he was suspending all football activities of the school due to the coronavirus scare.

Makoto now leads the standings with a 2-0 record, two points clear of Leylam and Erco Bro.

Meanwhile, the University of Cebu (UC) opened its campaign with a hard-earned 3-2 win over Don Sacredale. Joseph Limana opened the scoring in the third minute for UC before Wilfred Villaven got the equalizer in the 25th.

UC got the lead back seven minutes from the half with a strike from Kenneth Bordalba before Kurt Cuizon made it 3-1 in the 47th minute. Nicholas Villacin got one back for Sacredale in the 47th but the former runnerup ran out of time to get the equalizer and suffered its second straight loss.

UC is now at fourth place in the standings with a 1-0 record, while Sacredale dropped to fifth with a 1-2 record. The University of San Jose-Recoletos is sixth at 0-2. (ML)
