Marcial faces Villalba in Texas

Sunnexdesk

OLYMPIAN Eumir Marcial tests his mettle against experienced Argentinean Ricardo Ruben Villalba in an eight-rounder in the undercard of the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight fight between Rey Vargas and O’Shaquie Foster on Feb. 11, 2023, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Marcial, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Steven Prichardo last Oct. 8 in Carson, California. Also last year, the 27-year-old Marcial was in the toughest fight of his career against Isiah Hart. He was dropped three times in the fight but showed a ton of heart and stopped Hart in the fourth round.

Villalba should pose a threat to Marcial because of his 13-year experience as a pro. He’s also fought for regional titles and is a former World Boxing Association Asia and World Boxing Organization Latino super welterweight champion.

The 33-year-old Villalba’s biggest win is a disqualification victory over Hector David Saldivia, who once fought Kell Brook in a world title eliminator.

Villalba dropped his last three fights, losing to Edgar Ghukasyan, Flavius Biea and Micky Scala.

Marcial is 3-0 with a knockout, while Villalba is 20-7-1 with eight knockouts. (EKA)
