Metrotiles finals-bound in CABC Corporate Cup

METROTILES overcame a twice-to-beat handicap and advanced to the finals of the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) 2nd Corporate Cup following an 87-80 win over Davies Paints in the semifinals last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Gym.

It was a close lead early on with Metrotiles having a point advantage after a quarter of action and a three-point lead at halftime, 35-31. Metrotiles pulled away in the third period and had a 58-50 lead going into the final quarter.

Davis Paints fought hard in the fourth period, even outscoring Metrotiles, but it wasn’t enough to take the victory.

Michael Cinco had a huge game with 31 points, five rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. He also was hot from beyond the arc, hitting five of his 10 three point attempts. Jonas Panerio added 17 points and also hitting five shots from the three-point line. Darren Morandante was a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 markers and nine boards.

Kimkim Rebosura had a complete game with 30 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal in a losing effort by Davies Paints. Chad Go had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, Dexsel Caadan logged 12 markers and eight boards.

Metrotiles beat Davies Paints, 71-65, in their first semifinals meeting. Davies Paints was the higher seed and had a twice-to-beat advantage.

Metrotiles had to beat both Phelps Dodge and Davies Paints twice to advance to the finals.

Metrotiles takes on AAC Light Strong in a do-or-die finals match this Sunday at the CEC Gym. (RSC)
