Mikey Williams finally signs extension with TNT

Jonas N. Panerio

TNT’s star guard Mikey Williams has finally signed his extension contract with the Tropang Giga after a long stalemate that saw him miss the first few games of the PBA Philippine Cup.

Williams signed a brand-new three-year contract that will keep him with the team that picked him fourth overall during the 2020 PBA Draft, for three more years.

The contract impasse between Williams and TNT was like a dark cloud that hovered over the franchise, especially after the high-scoring guard missed the team’s first five games because of it.

Williams had a clause in his rookie contract that allowed him to renegotiate his contract if he leads TNT to a PBA title. After the Tropang Giga nabbed the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup crown, Williams did not take long to activate the said stipulation.

Since returning from the United States, Williams, though, has been quick to make amends and is averaging 21 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, helping TNT nab the second seed in the quarterfinals after a stellar elimination round that saw them finish with the second-best record.
