IT WILL be an action-packed Saturday when some of the best women’s rugby clubs in the country and two visiting international teams slug it out in the Cebu Ladies 10s International Rugby Festival on July 13, 2019 at the Cebu International School (CIS) football grounds.

“People will see action-packed games. The two international teams are strong. Most of the players from the local teams are part of the Lady Volcanoes who joined the Asia Women’s Rugby Championships. They beat India but unfortunately lost in the finals to China,” Maggie Royo, one of the Cebu Ladies 10’s organizing committee members, told SunStar Cebu.

The SKF Mavericks are back to defend their crown against last year’s runner-up and home team Cebu Lady Dragons, Lady Eagles, Davao Lady Durians, NTU Singapore and Hong Kong Football Club.

The SKF Mavericks, a rugby club based in Makati, beat the Cebu Lady Dragons, 8-5, to claim the coveted Dragon Cup last year.

The Cebu Ladies 10s International Rugby Festival is considered as the biggest women’s rugby meet in the southern part of the country.

New Zealand ambassador David Strachan will also grace the event, according to Royo.

Strachan has been supporting the Visayas Rugby Football Union with a rugby program that teaches Department of Education teachers in rugby coaching. (EKA)
