THE Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc. (Pads) Dragonboat Racing Team drew the spotlight in the 2018 Buglasan Dragon Boat Race in San Jose, Negros Oriental the other day.

The Cebu-based team composed of PWD paddlers bagged the title in the 200-meter women’s small boat race after clocking 1 minute and 19.09 seconds in the final heat.

The 14-man Pads women’s team defeated SJ Banatti, which clocked 1:19.69 good for second place in the annual race conducted by the local government unit of Negros Oriental as part of the Buglasan Festival.

Pads executive officer John Paul Maunes said that the team is happy with the result and it showed the development of the PWD paddlers.

“The teams that we competed against were strong and fast. We prepared for this competition and it paid off. It’s really great that the Pads Dragonboat team won the women’s title,” he said.

The Pads advocacy is to promote sports for all by introducing various sports to PWDs. Aside from the dragon boat team, Pads did a sitting volleyball workshop at the Aznar Coliseum a few days ago. (RSC)
