PBA suspending games to support initiative to curb rise in Covid-19 cases

Sunnexdesk

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has decided to temporarily suspend the games in the Philippine Cup starting on August 4.

With the government ruling to place the National Capital Region under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 to 20 to curb the rise in Covid-19 Delta variant cases, the PBA is shuttling its games for now as it awaits for the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ decision regarding their request to transfer their games to Lipa, Batangas.

The league has already formally submitted its request to the IATF, which is being headed by Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Conducting contact sports is prohibited in an area under ECQ.

Batangas was the home of several PBA teams during the offseason as they conducted their practices there. (JNP)
