PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William “Butch” Ramirez commended the performance of the Filipino athletes on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, during the fourth day of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

“After almost three days of intense competitions, and with Team Philippines performing magnificently in the face of world-class foes, I would like to send my message of congratulations to all who fought valiantly to uphold national pride. You are all winners to us,” Ramirez said in a statement.

“We are riding on this positive wave and continue to hope that we can sustain this good performance,” Ramirez added, who’s also the deputy chef de mission for Team PH in the 30th SEA Games.

Team PHL is currently on pace towards the goal of capturing the overall championships, which the country last hoisted in 2005 Sea Games. But Ramirez is well aware of the fact that there are still a lot of games left to be played.

“We still have many days of battle ahead of us, but I remain steadfast in my belief in our national team. I know that they are intent on delivering pride and honor for the country,” he said.

“I again enjoin every Filipino, wherever you are in the world, let us all rally behind our national team. Let us continue to support and pray for their continued success.”

The 2019 SEA Games will run until Wednesday next week, Dec. 11.

The last time the Philippines won the overall championship was when the country hosted the sporting meet last 2005.

Team PH was well ahead from the other nations, racking up 41 gold medals, 24 silvers and 15 bronzes as of 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. (SunStar Cebu)
