CENTRAL Visayas walked away with the overall title of the taekwondo tertiary division of the 2019 Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Nationals after a 13-medal haul in Davao City.

Central Visayas—represented by jins from the University of Cebu (UC), University of San Carlos (USC) and Holy Name University (HNU)—won three golds, seven silvers and three bronze medals.

“Our sparring teams in the region are still on a rebuilding stage,” Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) Region 7 head Tony del Prado told SunStar Cebu. “With the support of our big universities such as UC and USC, I’m positive that this ‘rebuilding’ will bear fruit in the form of more Cebuanos included in the national team.”

Michaela Calamba won a gold in the individual poomsae and teamed up with Aldrian Abrio to win another gold in the mixed pair poomsae. Ellen Joy Villacarlos won a gold in the lightweight division in kyorugi or sparring.

Kissha Barro (flyweight), Yasmin May Manulong (bantamweight), Mayn Coran (featherweight), David Charlse Labistre (flyweight), Sal Louise Estrada (bantamweight) and Dominic Sator (middleweight) won a silver each in the kyurogi. Abrio also won a silver in the individual poomsae.

Warren Jan Rama (finweight), Micah Marie Mission (welterweight) and Spencer Sedillo (heavyweight) snagged bronze medals in kyorugi.

The Central tertiary taekwondo team is mentored by coaches Michael Angelo Realista and Frauline Joy Realista of UC, Glenn Lava of USC, and John Prisco Vinalon of HNU. (EKA)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
