THE reigning Cesafi champions SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles ran roughshod over the Don Bosco Greywolves, winning by a mile, 76-47, in the semifinals of the SM-NBTC League Cebu City qualifiers at the Cebu City Sports Institute on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

The win gave Ateneo de Cebu a spot in the National High School Championships next month at the Mall of Asia Arena. The top two finishers of the Cebu City qualifier will earn spots to the prestigious competition.

Disputing the other spot are the Southwestern University-Phinma and the University of the Visayas.

The Magis Eagles did not take long to leave their mark in the game as they uncorked a 22-1 run at the halfway point of the first period to erect a 30-5 lead. With speedy guard Mike Boniel leading the way, the rest of the Magis Eagles followed suit as a flood of points coming from Tracy Dadang, Joey Villamayor, Raffy Celis and Cesafi MVP LA Casinillo followed to give them the massive lead.

Ateneo de Cebu did not let up and extended their lead to a high of 37, 76-39, after a three-point play by Villamayor with 2:37 remaining in the game.

Boniel showed off his all-around skills as he piled up 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Villamayor was just as lethal with his 13 points.

Jose Dizon led Don Bosco with 11 markers as their star forward Vincent Escobido was held down to just six points on 2-of-17 shooting from the field. (JNP)
