Tabal, Poliquit dominate SM run

CEBUANA Mary Joy Tabal and Rafael Poliquit of Tagum City lived up to their lofty billing after bagging the 21K titles in the SM2SM Run at the SM City Cebu on Sunday, Feb. 17.

Tabal clocked 1 hour, 24 minutes and 54 seconds to rule the women’s side of the Open 39-Under, while Poliquit breasted the tape in 1:11:19 to top the men’s division.

Kristine Hallasgo and Christabel Martes finished behind Tabal with a time of 1:25:12 and 1:30:36, respectively, while Cebu’s Prince Joey Lee and former Milo Marathon king Jeson Agravante of Bacolod were the runners-up to Poliquit after clocking 1:11:45 and 1:12:15, respectively.

In the 21K foreign category, Jackson Kiprotich Chirchir nabbed the men’s title in 1:11:15 beating Kenyans Joseph Mururi (1:13:09) and Eliud Kering (1:16:40). Mary Luz Shimizu clocked 2:01:11 and dominated the women’s side with a 20-minute edge over the field. (RSC)
