Talisay City begins title defense with win over Carcar in Gullas Cup 2020

THE reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars got their title defense off to a fine start as they downed the Carcar Lechoneros, 96-89, at the start of the Gullas Cup Vision 2020 at the Talisay City Sports Complex on Saturday night, January 25, 2020.

The Lechoneros went toe to toe with the Aquastars for most of the game but in the end, the Aquastars just had too much firepower to log in the victory. Prolific guard Keaton Taburnal led Talisay City with 28 points, three rebounds and four assists while Clark Ruedas had 25 points, four boards, two assists, three steals and three blocked shots.

Jhaylord Castro also had a great game with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Ronald Delfino Jr. led Carcar with 20 points, four boards, three assists and two steals.

In the first game, the Minglanilla Archangels dominated the Naga Electrifiers, 115-74. Five different players scored in double-figures for Minglanilla, which took full control of the game with a 41-15 scoring outburst in the second period that allowed them to surge in front, 62-34.

Tristan Cabrera paced the Archangels with 22 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and four steals while Edu Sanchez added 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and a whopping six steals. Martin Aguilar and Patrick Dobleros added 16 points apiece while Elizalde Abella put up 10 points.
