THE retooled University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters trounced the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. champions Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras, 99-89, to give itself a chance at bagging the title in the 1st Uy Masuy Cup at the Cebu Sports Institute on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.

It was a tight game all throughout but UC, which is under new head coach Kern Sesante, found its groove late to pull away and even up its win-loss record at 1-1 in this four-team pocket tournament that will hand P20,000 to the champion squad.

UC’s prolific big man from Sierra Leone, Tosh Sesay, had himself quite the ballgame as he notched an incredible double-double performance of 38 points on 16-of-22 shooting to go with a whopping 23 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.

Helping Sesay out were Paul Galinato and Rodel Gravera who had 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Playing without Lamine Thiam, the Cobras leaned the broad shoulders of Red Cachuela who had 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers remained unbeaten after they edged the IPL Geckos, 103-101.

Jancork “The Bulldozer” Cabahug led the way for the Green Lancers with 25 points, seven rebounds and two assists as UV improved to 2-0. UV’s big man from Ivory Coast, Lass Coulibally, notched a double-double with 25 points and 13 boards while Melvin Butohan and Jiesel Tarrosa fired in 19 and 12 points, respectively, to give UV the inside track on the title in the Uy Masuy Cup.
