THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers advanced to the finals of the 2019 Minglanilla Mayor’s Cup Inter-collegiate Christmas League with a huge 87-69 win over the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. champions Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras at the Minglanilla Sports Complex on Dec. 11, 2019.

With SWU-Phinma’s ace forward Lamine Thiam sitting the game out, USPF quickly took advantage as Sameen Swint scattered 29 points to help the Panthers capture their third win in as many games and sweep the elimination round.

The sweep also meant that USPF will be heading straight to the winner-take-all finals.

The loss sent SWU-Phinma to a do-or-die game against the University of the Visayas for the right to face USPF in the finals.

The championship game will be held on Friday with the winner going home with P100,000. (JNP)
