MARK Vicelles continues his surge in the light flyweight division after winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia South light flyweight crown with a majority decision over world-ranked veteran Jessie Espinas on Saturday, July 6, 2019, in the main event of “#Kumbati 3 sa Liloan.” It was a very close contest but Vicelles had his hand raised after getting the nod of two of the three judges. The scores were 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95.

“It was very good. It was a technically sound fight. It was close but he was able to pull out a win,” Omega Pro Sports International vice president Jerome Calatrava told SunStar Cebu.

The 23-year-old Vicelles remains undefeated with an 11-0-1 slate with five knockouts, while Espinas suffered his second straight loss and dropped to 19-4 with 11 knockouts.

“His next fight will be an activity fight. At least that’s the plan for now unless we get an offer for him to fight abroad,” said Calatrava. “He has trained hard for the first half of the year, for his fights in April and July. We will let him rest then come back after a few weeks, then plan for his next move.” (EKA)
