Women’s basketball is alive in Cebu. This is what National University Lady Bulldogs head coach Patrick Aquino asserted as he conducted a tryout at the Capitol Parish gym on Saturday morning, January 25, 2020, that saw more than 100 ladies from all over the region come and participate.

The Lady Bulldogs are the most dominant women’s team in the UAAP, winning six straight titles. They also hold the longest winning streak in all of collegiate sports history — a mind-boggling 96-game winning streak that has all but solidified NU’s place as the one of the very best women’s basketball programs in the country.

But Aquino is not resting on his laurels as he continues to scour the country for talented players to add to his roster for the seasons to come.

“It was great. I'm so happy with the turnout. More than 100 came and I feel that women's basketball is back again in the city and not only from here, they came from different parts of Cebu and nearby provinces din,” said Aquino in a talk with SunStar Cebu.

“They have so many potential players here at a very young age. And they are the next honing ground for the future of the national team,” Aquino added.

Aquino also said that several players have already caught his eye.

“Yes there are some that are very knowledgeable about the game already and can fit and play in Manila na even for the national team,” Aquino said.

The tryouts will continue on Sunday, January 26, at 8 a.m. at the same venue.
