IN LINE with the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) of the government, an automotive business - Gazelle Motors Corporation - launched its Azenso Program on Thursday, March 21, to help transport drivers and operators with the transition.

Gazelle Motors Corporation chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fernando Martinez said the program is an entrepreneurial and financial management program which aims to help through knowledge capacity-building.

“Under the Azenso programs, transport driver and operators will gain access to seminars and social support programs that would make help them become self-sufficient and well-rounded individuals,” Martinez said.

He presented their newest public utility vehicle (PUV) units called the Gazelle NEXT Citiline buses that could carry up to 31 passengers, 23 sitting and eight standing.

“Modernization program aims to retire all the small, dilapidated PUVs with more modern vans like Gazelle with a European brand to have more spacious, less pollution and will give bigger income opportunities to drivers,” he said.

He said the unit included key features like stop request buttons in the passengers’ compartment for easy takeoff, handrails for support, frame-type body with two doors, floor to ceiling height is 6’2 feet, and emergency brake system. Each cost around P2.5 million.

In 2018, they sold 80 units and they have around 500 orders lined up for this year.

“Bigger space, the same fare. It is better, convenient and higher income for the operators kasi mura ang amortization, it is five to seven years and halos walang downpayment,” Martinez said.

“It will enhance productivity kasi pagdating mo ng opisina, fresh ka pa kasi komportable ka,” he added.

Martinez said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) seeks to modernize 220,000 PUJs in the country and Gazelle Motors Corporation committed to provide regular trainings that would help them operate their will-be modern units.

They are partnering with the academe, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, DOTr, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Land Transportation Office in providing the modules.
