DURIAN prices are now as low as P60 per kilogram based on the price watch conducted by SunStar Davao on Monday at the Kadayawan Village and Farmer’s Market.

“Ang pinakabarato namo nga kilo karun kay ang native durian P60 per kilo, (The cheapest durian type we have is the native on at P60 per kilo),” Rick Mano, a durian vendor, said in an interview at Kadayawan Village, Magsaysay Park on Monday, August 13, 2018. Durian ranges from P60 to P80 per kilogram as of August 13, 2018, Monday.

Mano, who gets his durian from Tugbok, said the Puyat variety still remains as the most sought after durian by Dabawenyos.

Earlier, Durian Industry Council of Davao City (DICDC) president Larry Miculob said they are hopeful that the price will decrease for durian this month.

“Price may range as low as P25 for street vendors up to P60 at known durian-selling outlets depending on varieties. And we are looking at a much lower price compared last year,” Miculob said.

However, for durian vendors at Magsaysay Fruit Vendors Association, Magsaysay Park, durian is still being sold at P100/kg.

“Ang last jud namo na mabaligya sa kilo namo kay P90 per kilo jud (The last price we could give for the durian is at P90 per kilo),” Ren Esco, a durian vendor at Magsaysay Fruit Vendors Association said in an interview.

Ellen Ayoala, one of the vendors at the fruit stand said there is still a lower supply of durian compared to the recent years.

In 2015, the price of durian was at around P20/kg to P25/kg.

Other fruits at the Farmer’s Market in Magsaysay Park are sold at a lower prices due to an increase in supply. Mangosteen prices are at P60/kg while pomelo is pegged at P130/kg.
