Filing of realty taxes extended until June 30

Ralph Lawrence G. Llemit

FILING of real property taxes has been extended to June 30, 2019.

Davao City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) acting head Erwin Alparaque said the extension was made through a passed resolution that was approved by the City Council.

Under the Revenue Code of Davao City, the original schedule for the filing of real property taxes starts from the first day of January until March 25.

"Under Section 11 of the Revenue Code of Davao City, taxpayers now have the option to pay it in installment," he said during the iSpeak media forum at the City Hall of Davao.

Alparaque said that the city is targeting a P1.7-billion collection of real property tax. As of March 25, the CTO has collected P591.5 million.

Last year, the city collected P1.7 billion, falling short of its P2.4-billion target.

Meanwhile, the city has P79-million uncollected real property taxes from delinquent taxpayers in the past 10 years.

Alparaque said that CTO issued the list of names of those taxpayers.

He said that there are some delinquent taxpayers who have started settling their dues.

"Non-compliant taxpayers will be charged adminsitrative and legal actions, as provided by the local government code, RA 7160," Alparaque said.
