WITH a huge tourism potential, some P10 billion worth of prospective investments on hotels and resorts are expected to be poured in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

George Plaza, president of Amihan Sa Dahican, a people’s organization tasked to monitor any activities in the area, shared at the sidelines of the Kapehan Sa Dabaw at the SM City Davao that these indicative projects are from 10 investors.

He mentioned that the M Lhuiller company is planning to build a high-end resort beside Menzi Beach Resort in Dahican Beach.

“They (M Lhuiller) are now in the final stages of preparing necessary permits and from what I heard it’s nearing approval from involved agencies,” he said.

Plaza shared most of the investors buying land within the tourism zone of Mati City are companies and celebrities.

He emphasized that the trend of buying properties in Mati peaked after the Boracay Island six-month closure announcement.

“Investors are buying now because land value here increases almost every month. Usually, beach front land in Dahican Beach is at P5,000 to P7,000 per square meters, a huge leap from P3,000 per sq. m. two years ago,” he said.
