Cute crochet works

WHEN we speak of crocheted items, the first thing that comes to our minds are scarves, shoals, and table runners. Also, we tend to imagine that it is an older middle aged woman who is doing it.

Disenyo Crochet, founded by young entrepreneurs Maribel S. Beñola and her friend Honeygerl R. Ferrater, is making an effort to let the younger generation appreciate the craft of crocheting with their colorful and unique products. Both founders are also self-taught in crochet.

Beñola, who has a hobby for crocheting since high school, said they started their small business in 2017.

"We started with giveaways for our friends," she said, adding that they offered to make the giveaway items of the christening of their friend's child. They made small dolls for the giveaways.

Beñola said when they started with their business, one of their first products was the dolls.

"We get free patterns from the internet. We get the base of the pattern for doll and we design from there," she said.

Ferrater added that sometimes they mix up patterns to come up with a new look or design for the doll.

Beñola said, from the doll, they also began to add new product lines like dream catchers, coasters, table runners, and also blankets.

"We also plan to make accessories but we are taking things one step at a time," Ferrater said, adding that they are looking into making earrings or key chains.

At present, the price of their crocheted dolls is around P200 to P750, depending on the design and size. Though they said some would go higher than P750.

Meanwile, the coaster is at P100 per set while dream catchers are P100 to P200 depending on size.

Ferrater said when it comes to their designs, as much as possible they make sure each design of their products unique from one another.

In the future, they hope to put up store not only showcasing their crocheted products but sell high quality yarns.

Currently, you can buy their products at Spark Coffee + Crafts, Paseo Building, Marfori, in front of the park. You may also visit their Facebook and Instagram accounts to check their works or make an order.
