Labrador: Fruit trippin’ this Kadayawan

Kriztja Marae G. Labrador

ONE thing that you shouldn’t miss during the Kadayawan season here in the city is eating all the festival fruits. Not only because they are seasonal but also because they are mostly priced cheaper at this time especially the “King of Fruits” which Davao City is known for - Durian.

One of the most accessible go-to places to give in to your durian and other fruit cravings is at Magsaysay Fruit Market. There are a lot of stalls and tables where you and your family or friends can sit down and enjoy the local festival fruits.

Durian was sold for P100 per kilo when we went there last week, still a bit pricey but I hope that prices would still go down by the end of the month. Varieties of durian available at the fruit market are Puyat and Arancillo. If you’re into super sweet durian then Puyat is for you but if you’re into that sweet-bitter taste like us, then Arancillo is the way to go!

Smelly hands will also not be a problem as almost all fruit stalls offer plastic gloves to protect your hands while eating.

Other fruits available this season include mangosteen, rambutan, pomelo, and lanzones.

Happy fruit tripping!
