IT’S not Araw ng Davao if there is no Parada Dabawenyo as the highlight of the activities for the month, and it’s not just a parade, it’s a people’s parade.

With over 387 groups participating in the parade, Parada Dabawenyo surely entertained the crowd with dozens of motorbike clubs, the full-geared security sector, civic groups, companies, and dignitaries from other countries filled the streets of C.M Recto, Roxas Avenue, San Pedro Street last March 16.

Also several artists from Manila were onboard politician’s floats waving to the crowd, although not everyone was happy with the politicians in the parade.

Aside from the colorful parade seen in the street, helicopters added colors to the parade as they did a low pass and flew by San Pedro Street, dropping petals on the street.

Moreover, the city created an event that people will never forget. They provided free food after the parade with over 5,000 people filling the barricaded C.M Recto Street –an appetizing way to end the day with a high note.

Kumbira has already gained Davao popularity since last year with hundreds of roasted beef being feed to the people for free.

With the advent of live coverage and social media, lesser and lesser spectators were seen along Parade routes to witness firsthand the sun-stricken participants on the streets.

Nonetheless, the Parade showcased the ingenuity of Dabawenyos during the festivity. It was a parade for all, showing their support for the city.

A day of the people, for the people, and by the people.
