12 security guards in DavOr receive P1M after winning case vs employer

TWELVE security guards received a total of P1 million after they won their labor case against their employer in Davao Oriental.

The Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Oriental (Dole-DavOr) said the security guards from Lupon, Davao Oriental filed a complaint against their employer at their office for unpaid premiums, holidays, overtime, and 13th-month pay.

“In pursuance of Department Order No. 183-17 of the DOLE, the labor inspectors shall conduct a routine inspection to address labor complaints, achieve expeditious settlements, and resolution of labor cases and disputes,” Dole-DavOr said in a Facebook post on November 9, 2022.

Complainants were able to receive a total of P1,095,928.27 worth of money claims which was released on August 20, 2022.

Dole-DavOr provincial head Rodolfo Castro said they “hoped that the event might serve as an eye-opener for companies to be mindful and voluntarily comply with the general labor standards enshrined in the labor code of the Philippines,”.

Meanwhile, as of September 2022, DOLE Davao Region reported they already settled 97.05 percent or a total of 2,056 of the 2,099 Request for Assistance (RFA).

Dole said the top complaints in the region are for final pay, underpayment of minimum wage, and illegal dismissal. About 2,081 workers reportedly benefitted with monetary claims amounting to P173,317,955.52.

Dole said most of RFAs were filed at Davao City Field Office with 976 cases, Davao del Norte Field Office with 592 cases, and Davao de Oro Field Office with 332 cases. KSD
