3-month-old 'polio victim'

A THREE-month-old infant, who is currently in the isolation room of the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), is believed to be suffering from poliomyelitis.

A source from the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao region said the baby was admitted at the CRMC due to fever and paralysis on the baby's one leg.

DOH-Davao Region information officer Jenny Panizalez revealed that the CRMC is already conducting procedures to ascertain whether the baby is positive with poliomyelitis, adding that the specimen were already brought for laboratory tests.

Poliomyelitis or infantile paralysis, which is more known as polio, is an infectious disease caused by poliovirus.

Panizalez also said that the region is still safe from polio virus since the baby's case is still considered as suspected polio for laboratory tests are still ongoing.
