DAVAO City’s safety and security cluster, spearheaded by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), has started conducting coordination conferences in preparation for the Araw ng Davao, Ironman 70.3, and Micecon 2023— all of which are slated this March.

This year’s Micecon will be held on March 1 to 3, while the Araw ng Davao celebrations are scheduled on March 1 to 16, followed by the Ironman 70.3 triathlon race slated on March 26.

“Actually, ongoing na ang atoang mga series of conferences with the safety and security cluster for the Araw ng Davao (Actually, our series of conferences with the safety and security cluster for the Araw ng Davao are ongoing),” DCPO spokesperson PMaj Catherine Dela Rey said during the AFP-PNP media forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, January 25.

“Plus, within that week pud ang atoang Ironman so busy ang whole safety and security cluster sa dakbayan sa Davao, especially ang Davao City Police Office kay gina-aim nato na zero incident gihapon ang Araw ng Davao ug sa Ironman (Plus, we also have the Ironman within that week so the whole safety and security cluster of the city of Davao, especially the Davao City Office, is very busy because we are aiming that the Ironman and the Araw ng Davao will have zero incidents),” she added.

Security preparations will require more considerations as public health protocols and restrictions to movement have been lifted. However, since these events have already been held successfully in the past, the security templates to be followed will be more or less the same.

The half-marathon 21-km segment of the triathlon race, for instance, will follow the same route from Victoria Plaza to Azuela Cove and back, the same road closures are to be expected, Dela Rey said. Public advisories will be issued beforehand to inform the public of road closures before the big events.

Security coverage for these dates include maximum deployment of security personnel. Further augmentation of armed forces will be provided by the Police Regional Office.

Dela Rey added that the city’s security cluster is united in ensuring a zero-incident report on these events. (CIO)
