Davao City will still push through with PRRD museum

THE DAVAO city government is committed to pursuing a museum devoted to former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is the first Mindanawon leader to sit as the country’s chief executive.

This, according to Vice Mayor Jay Melchor Quitain, is among the plans of the current administration to give credit to the contributions of Duterte to the country, especially the Mindanao region.

“Right now, it’s still in the planning stage. As you know, it’s still our five months in office. It’s going to take time because we have to curate whatever pieces that we need to collect,” he said during the 159th Bonifacio Day celebration on Wednesday, November 30, at Bonifacio Rotunda.

“It can be put up in the National Museum building or we can look for another ideal location. Nothing is definite yet. But we will push for its completion [in] three years or before our term ends. We hope we can accomplish that,” he added.

In 2021, then-mayor and current Vice President Sara Z. Duterte revealed her plans of establishing a museum for her father to the press during her visit to Cebu City Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

The said project was inspired by the provincial government of Cebu which has created a museum to honor former governors of the province.

The museum will also serve as a place for learning about the history of the city.

Duterte’s extensive political career started in 1998 when he served as mayor of Davao City 1998.

He also served as the representative of the first district from 1998 to 2001, mayor from 2001 to 2010, vice mayor from 2010 to 2013, and mayor again from 2013 until 2016 when Paolo, his son, joined him as vice mayor. JDC
