LAND Transportation Office (LTO) assistant secretary Edgar Galvante urged Drivers’ License Renewal Office (DLRO) heads and staff to hasten the issuance of the three-year and five-year license cards so that they can push for the 10-year license card validity.

“Yung three-year license card na-kompleto na natin yan, practically, wala nang problema d’yan. ‘Yung license card, hihigitin pa nga natin yan ng 10-years,” Galvante said during the DLRO opening at Gaisano Grand-Buhangin last Thursday, November 15, 2018.

“That is why kung meron pa kayong mga five-year license cards na hindi na i-issue or nari-renew, bilisan niyo kasi we are to push for the 10-year card validity,” he added.

The LTO Asec disclosed the advantages of the 10-year license card: “Hindi na tayo mangangailangan na everytime magri-renew ka, magapa-picture ka (We don’t need to have our pictures taken every time we renew our license.) And as mentioned, even in the comfort of your homes,” Galvante said, adding that the clients will have the option to go personally at the DLROs or do mobile transactions.

“Hindi na kayo haharap sa camera para magpalitrato kasi yung system, magkakaroon na ng recognition ng key features ng mukha, (You don’t need to face in front of the camera to be photographed because the system will already have a face recognition features)” he said.

However, he said that only those drivers without records of traffic violations in the LTO within five years since owning a license will enjoy the 10-year license card validity.

“You can process your license cards and enjoy the 10-year validity if you have no violations,” he said.

The rules and regulations for the 10-year validity of license card were stated in the Republic Act No. 10930, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last August 2, 2017.
