DOH: Zero firecracker-related injury in Davao Region

DAVAO Region still recorded zero firecracker-related injury last Christmas 2018 celebration, a Department of Health official said.

"As of yesterday [December 26] based on the reports gathered from our sentinel sites and monitoring from different provinces, wala pay (there is still no) reported and recorded case of firecracker-related injury sa (in the) region,” DOH Davao Region health education and promotion officer 3 Yasuy Avila said in an interview Thursday, December 27.

Yasuy added that monitoring the different provinces in Davao region will continue until January 5 next year.

It can be recalled that firecracker-related injuries from December 21, 2017 up to January 5, 2018 in the region decreased by 8.3 percent from 24 cases compared to 22 cases on December 21, 2016 to January 5, 2017 period.

Meanwhile, DOH Davao Region officer-in-charge of the Local Health Support Division doctor Raquel Montejo said if there is a firecracker-related injury the first thing to do is to wash the injured area, clean the wound and stop the bleeding. She added that if the bleeding persists, the injured should be brought to the nearest health facilities or call 911 for medical assistance. (RJC)
