THE Davao City Council last week approved on suspended rules the resolution supporting the request of the Dole Philippines to erect a 25-foot concrete sculpture entitled “Golden Harvest,” a banana tri-people monument at the Davao International Airport.

Based on the copy of the resolution, the sculpture will be donated by the Dole Philippines Inc.-Stanfilco Division on the occasion of its Golden year.

Golden Harvest, a banana tri-people monument will be sculpted by homegrown artist Rey Mudjahid "Kublai" Millan.

"The 25-foot concrete sculpture in (color) gold finish represents Mindanao's tri-people (Christian, Moro, and Lumad) holding various harvests atop a giant banana finger. Dedicated to Rody Duterte, the first President from Mindanao, this monument is eyed for turn over to the city during the 33rd Kadayawan Festival," the resolution read.

Based on the resolution, the construction of the monument is momentous for the Dole-Stanfilco as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Dole-Stanfilco, a Japanese multi-national company based in Davao city is the pioneer and leader in the Philippine banana export industry. The company traces its beginnings in 1968, following the very first shipment to Japan, one of its major markets to this day. (KVC)
