‘Engkanto takes revenge’

TACURONG CITY – Some 15 students have recovered from a mass hysteria around 2 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019, in Sultan Kudarat province.

According to Councilor Jay-ar Tolentino of Barangay Mamali Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, the estimated 15 students of Mamali High School were allegedly possessed by an evil spirit after a big mango tree inside the school campus was cut down.

The teachers immediately sought the assistance of their prayer leaders when their students began screaming. The students also convulsed and were uncontrollable as they became very strong.

The mango tree was cut down as the school officials deemed it already dangerous for their students and faculty.

An "albularlyo" (quack doctor) said that an elemental being (engkanto) is living in the mango tree and it got mad when her two children were wounded during the cutting down of the tree.

A Mass and blessing of the cut mango tree is now being scheduled inside the school campus to cast out the evil spirit living in it.
