Heavy rains cause power outage in 17 areas in Davao City

SEVENTEEN areas in Davao City experienced power outages caused by the heavy rains on Tuesday evening, August 16.

In a service advisory issued by Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) as of 2:32 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, power has already been restored to 10 areas: Fatima Village; Garcia Heights; Mineral Village; Montfort Village, Bajada; Villa Park Subdivision, Buhangin; Gem Village, Maa; Northcrest, Buhangin (Broken secondary line); Biao Eskwela; Las Terrazas Subdivision, Maa; and Royal Pines, Matina.

While restoration efforts are still ongoing at Catalunan Pequeño, Belisario Village, and P-1 Barangay Inayangan after a tree collapse. Belisario's power supply has been partially restored.

Other areas in the city have broken primary lines, including Chula Vista, Cabantian; Holy Trinity Village, Buhangin; and Uyanguren. These areas need gang crews to restore the power supply.

Ladislawa Village in Bacaca Road, meanwhile, experienced a power outage after two poles collapsed.

Davao Light, in a statement, said they are currently working on the reported outages that were caused by the heavy rain.

The power company assured its consumers that they will restore the power in the affected areas once the fault is cleared.

For those experiencing an outage, Davao Light reminded them to call or send them a message with their account ID, contact person, and contact number.

SunStar Davao reached out to Davao Light for additional updates but they have yet to respond.

According to the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the city experienced moderate to heavy rains due to localized thunderstorms.

Around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening, a tree in Shrine Hills was toppled by winds, resulting in the road unpassable to motorists. Davao City Central 911 immediately conducted clearing operations. RGL
