INTERFACE Development Interventions (Idis) Inc. said that DMC Urban and Property Developers, Incorporated's (DMC UPDI's) opposition to Shrine Hills being declared as Urban Ecological Enhancement Subzone (UEESZ) under Davao City's Zoning Ordinance was wrong and an upfront to Davao City Council.

Idis, in a statement to the City Council Saturday, August 25, 2018, said it is erroneous for DMCI UPDI to “implore the Sangguniang Panlungsod to abandon the provisions of the 2013 Ordinance and proposed amendments that effectively prohibit DMC UPDI from pursuing development projects involving its more than 26-hectare property in Shrine Hills.”

It also stated that the Zoning Ordinance was enacted for the purpose of promoting sound urban planning, ensuring health, public safety and general welfare of the Dabawenyos.

Idis said that this is the right time to regulate the developments in the area so as not to endanger the lives of the Dabawenyos.

“For us, it is really a win-win solution. Shrine Hills will be protected for public safety and for the general welfare,” Idis executive director Chinkee Golle said during an interview with SunStar Davao.

“Davao City is a fast-developing city but in terms of urban greening mas massive yung urban deforestation,” she added.

Golle also said they are eyeing for an eco-tourism park where the city, landowners or developers could invest.

“We respect the property rights of the homeowners at the same time, we are really pushing that Shrine Hills will be regulated because of its geological hazard. So sana, both will be accommodated in terms of issues and concerns,” she added. (LHC)
