THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Davao is set to conduct an Information and Education Campaign (IEC) in Paquibato district before it releases the endangered Pinsker’s hawk eagle that was turned over by a farmer last week.

Efren Tagorda, ecosystem management specialist (EMS) 2 of the DENR-Davao, during an interview with SunStar Davao yesterday, said the IEC will include information about biodiversity and the rules and regulations about the protection of wildlife so that the community will have knowledge about what to do when they see endangered species like the Pinsker’s hawk eagle.

The bird, however, is still being rehabilitated and its scheduled release still depends on its recovery.

“Ang initial assessment stressed siya [the hawk eagle], ang iyang mata dilated, paghikap sa iya kay murag walay water ang body (The hawk eagle is stressed out, that is the initial assessment. Its eyes are dilated and it seems there is no water in his body),” adding that the bird has not been moving a lot.

The bird’s rehabilitation is still ongoing at the Crocodile Park where facilities are available.

The bird was surrendered at the Peace 911 office last September 17 after it was caught through a snare by a farmer in Barangay Mabuhay, Paquibato district and will be released also in the same barangay.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
