A MEMBER of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) said there should be a regional office that will solely focus on the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

"Ngayon ang ARMM (government), does not know if it will move forward and they do not have enough budget to really supervise the rehabilitation," Datu Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan, executive director of the Al Qalam Institute, said during the press conference of the MSummit: Moro Youth National Conference Saturday, December 1 at the Ateneo de Davao University.

He said while there is a Task Force Bangon Marawi it is "hard for them to get their acts together" because of the many agencies involved.

However, Lidasan said once the Bangsamoro Organic Law is ratified and the Bangsamoro government is in place, then it would be the "more appropriate" body to work on the rehabilitation of Marawi City.

Meanwhile, during the Davao City Leg of Sulong Pilipinas last week, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said the Philippines has already received a total of P35.1 billion (about $670 million) in pledges from the international community to aid in the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for Marawi City.

"Of the P35. 1 billion in pledges, P32.7 billion will be in the form of concessional financing, while P2.4 billion will be in grants," said in a statement. (RJL)
