DAVAO City Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado said that there is another solution for the worsening traffic congestion in Davao City aside from the High Priority Bus System (HPBS), and it is the Davao People Mover (Monorail) Project.

“Today, traffic has become a perennial problem not only during weekdays but even on weekends, when daytime population in the city increases due to out-of-towners who frequent the city’s malls and other destinations,” Zozobrado said on his privilege speech during the City Council session last Tuesday, October 23.

“One of the most talked-about long-term solution to the city’s traffic problem is the HPBS, which is expected to be implemented very soon,” he said, adding that the monorail project, however, is another solution.

The 13-kilometer rail project was a proposal from the Udenna Corporation under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.

Zozobrado said they were informed that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has given the Udenna Corporation an Original Proponent Status (OPS) for the project.

“The project is now with the National Economic and Development Authority –Investment Coordination Committee for review and approval,” Zozobrado said.

He, meanwhile, said that Udenna is asking the City Council to endorse the project to the city, the regional development councils and Neda.
