THE prices of Davao City’s major fruits continue to decline as Kadayawan sa Davao approaches.

Based on the price monitoring conducted by Sunstar Davao at the Bankerohan Public Market, the price of durian ranges from P70 to P100 per kilogram (kg) this week compared to P100 to P200 the previous week.

Joey Mansag and Inmar Verad, fruit vendors at Bankerohan, said that puyat durian variety is priced at around P100/kg while other varieties, such as cob, aroncillo, and duyaya, range from around P70 to P80/kg.

Verad added that unlike the massive drop in durian prices last year, they are still waiting for the huge decline in durian prices as the peak in demand continues.

For mangosteen, prices continue to decrease to P100 from P120/kg last week. The pink mangosteen (usually bought for travel) is priced at P80/kg while the black mangosteen which could last up to two to three days range from P50 to P60/kg, according to Mansag and Hapelyn Madanga, also fruit vendors.

Meanwhile, prices for Maharlika rambutan, which ranged from P100 to P150/kg last month, have now become P50 to P60/kg. Local or native rambutan’s prices, on the other hand, range from P30 to P40/kg.

Mansag expects rambutan prices to continue to plummet next week to P20 and will not be the last price the market anticipates during this season.

These fruits will be available at different markets in Davao as Kadayawan opens this August 10, centering its celebration on the bountiful harvest of the city.
