WITH an aim to lower the number of child laborers in the Philippines, First District Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte is planning to provide intervention to the parents of child laborers in Davao City.

During the 2023 Araw ng Kalayaan para sa Batang Malaya at Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao on June 13, 2023, Rodrigo Duterte II representing his father, Rep. Duterte, inspired the parents to prioritize their children's education to eliminate child labor and stop the cycle of poverty as he raffled off 10 Lenovo laptops to be used by the children for their learning or training needs.

The event, which was organized by the Department of Labor and Employment-Davao Region (Dole-Davao) highlighted the profiling of the child laborers and their parents for possible livelihood intervention or skills training and enrolment with alternative learning systems. The participants enjoyed Dole's short film shows, clown entertainment, games, raffles, gift-giving, hair grooming, pedicure, manicure, and massage.

Aside from that, Rep. Duterte also attended the Kalayaan Job Fair organized by Dole-Davao on the same day, where 3,000 jobs from 40 local and 10 overseas employers were made available to the applicants.

Duterte II distributed 1,500 food packs with eco bags during the event.

Rep. Duterte is eyeing to replicate the raffling of laptops in future events, which will be announced by his office soon. CEA
