THE Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) in Davao del Norte will be imposing a 24-hour liquor ban for one month starting July 30, 2021, as Igacos Mayor Al David Uy

issued Executive Order (EO) No. 305 imposing the ban.

According to the EO, no liquor, alcoholic drinks or beverages shall be sold, served or consumed 24 hours of the day within the mentioned period.

The mayor ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP), Task Force Samal, Civilian Volunteer Organization and barangay officials to conduct surveillance and monitoring and to strictly implement the EO.

"Any person under the influence of liquor caught outside of their residence shall automatically undergo an antigen test or RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test," he said.

He added the business permit of business establishments violating any provision of the EO will be immediately subjected to revocation proceedings.

Uy said the issuance of the liquor ban came after the Department of Health (DOH) announced the local transmission of the highly infectious Delta variant in the country.

"There is an urgent need to implement additional preventive measures to curb the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the island," the mayor said in the EO.

Igacos, under the territorial jurisdiction of Davao del Norte, is under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions until August 15, after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases extended their quarantine status.

As of July 28, Igacos recorded a total of 998 confirmed Covid-19 cases, wherein 811 recovered and 37 succumbed from the virus.
