Tonyboy Floirendo claims he lost to money

Cristina E. Alivio

DAVAO del Norte Second District Representative Tonyboy Floirendo Jr., through his Serbisyo Una Facebook page, admitted that the defeat of many Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) candidates in Davao del Norte was surprising.

The post was apparently deleted as it could not be found as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, but SunStar Davao was able to get a screenshot.

"To this I say - nothing went wrong. Only that money overflowed a day before election and voters chose money over principle, over their future," part of his post read.

With the election turnout, he appealed to the people of Davao del Norte's second district to be very vigilant, wary, and must keep watch of the officials they have voted for.

"For I do not know for certain how they would be able to recoup the money they spent in this election," he added.

He also said his family has shared with the people of Davao del Norte the best they could offer for the past 50 years and that he prays that the province would continue to prosper with the new leadership.

He assured though that he will continue serving the people until the new congressman sits and will work hard to accomplish his remaining projects unhampered.

"I have served truthfully and I could proudly say that straight into anyone's eyes," he said.

He, however, thanked all those who supported him, especially to his volunteers, saying, "You are the family that I never had. Thank you for being there through thick and thin. No amount of money can repay your love and effort."

He ended his post addressing his supporters that they did not fail as they campaigned with dignity and honorably.

Meanwhile, PDP-Laban said its victory was a result from truthful, sincere, and clean fight. "And it is also a product of the people's trust and support to the party," it said. (With Jeepy Compio)
