Editorial: A hectic six months

Sunnexdesk

DAVAO City has its hands full for the first six months of the year with a series of national and regional events.

Most of these events are sports-related like the Davraa Meet, Alveo Ironman 70.3, and Palarong Pambansa. Other big events include the 2019 National and Local Midterm Elections and the annual Araw ng Dabaw.

It is safe to say that we can expect an influx of tourists coming to the city to take part in the events or to simply enjoy what Davao has to offer.

This will also be an opportunity for locals to truly highlight what the city has to offer ranging from tourism sites to locally made products.

The tourism sector will definitely want to take advantage of these opportunities and come up with packages that will suit the different visitors and participants.

Likewise, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) might look into the possibility of staging trade fairs in the city or near the venues of major events to highlight locally made products.

Once again, this is an opportunity for the city to showcase how it can address and cater to the needs of its visitors at the same time making sure that the needs of its constituents are also met.

Dabawenyos will also need to be more vigilant with their surroundings. Security is definitely in place but with the recent incidents happening in some parts of Mindanao, we can never be complacent.

A lot will be happening and a lot of opportunities will present itself to the Dabawenyos. Let us take these opportunities and show what good things Davao City has to offer. However, let us also do our part to ensure that our guests have a good time in the city.
