DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio received a total of P4-million checks as cash incentives for the city delegation who placed fourth overall in the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2018 held in Cebu City last May.

Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Sports Institute (PSC-PSI) Southern Mindanao coordinator Pochollo Elegino, representing PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez, turned over the checks of P2 million each to Duterte-Carpio during Monday's flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds.

The first check came from the PSC while the second one was the commitment of President Rodrigo Duterte, then guest speaker of the PNG 2018 opening ceremonies, who bared to double all cash incentives.

"Lipay si Mayor. Nagpasalamat to sya sa incentives (The mayor is happy. She was thankful for the incentives)," Elegino said via text message yesterday.

Also present during the awarding of checks were Davao City administrator lawyer Zuleika Lopez, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera and City Treasurer's Office (CTO) head Erwin Alparaque.

Davao City clinched a total of 19 gold medals, 30 silvers and 43 bronzes in the Games behind Cebu City (48-70-79), Baguio City (38-37-59) and Mandaluyong City (27-18-31) who grabbed the first three places to claim P10 million, P8 million and P6 million, respectively.
